Something’s in the air

Can you smell it? Can you feel it? Something’s brewing, people! We all know that we’re living in unique times (for want of a better word). Our country is facing a dire economic situation which is also reflected globally. We have just elected a black man into the highest office in the land. It’s the stuff the TV show “24” is made of! By the way, I think President-elect Obama should elect the writers of “24” into his cabinet. Hey, he may even have them to thank for making the idea of a black U.S. president very plausible! Gas prices, which reached an all-time high, have started to come down, such that a gallon of regular unleaded is currently at $1.86! Just a few weeks ago, it was dangerously near $4.00!! I must confess, I don’t know what to make of that. I keep thinking we’re being set up for disappointment when they skyrocket again soon.

Seriously, though, I have a heightened sense of anticipation, despite the uncertainty of the times. It’s at times like these, when things are seemingly out of control, that God is able to take control. Remember post-September 11? People did not know what to do, so they turned to something – Someone – greater than themselves.

Is the economy going to bounce back? Are gas prices finally down to where they used to be once upon a time? Is President-Elect Obama the leader we need or the one we deserve? Only time will reveal the answers to those questions. In the mean time, I’ll have my spiritual antennae out and alert, because beyond the accelerated heartbeat, goosebumps and tingling of the senses, if I were a betting girl – which I’m not! – I’d put money on the notion that SOMETHING’S IN THE AIR!
